This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As a test engineer supporting the Integration and Test team, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will as a part of small, multi-functional team, you’ll help specify, develop, code, and commission Software and Firmware products for Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) on our Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon - https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon. In a fast-paced, dynamic environment, you will develop software that supports spacecraft integration, test, and launch operations to ensure a safe and successful mission.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Spacecraft Integration and Test Support Software
  • Interpret Spacecraft Flight Software Requirements, Features, and Functionality for Software Scripts and Graphical User Interfaces (GUI’s) development by working closely with Spacecraft
  • Integration & Test (I&T) Engineers
  • Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) Hardware and Software Engineers
  • Integrated Ground System (IGS) Hardware and Software Engineers
  • Flight Software (FSW) and Ground Software (GSW) Engineers
  • Develop, Test and commission Software Scripts interfacing EGSE Hardware and IGS Software to run in conjunction with Spacecraft I&T Procedures.
  • Collaborate with I&T Engineers, generating and maintaining Test Requirements Cross Verification Matrices.
  • Support EGSE Software and IGS Script maintenance, upgrades, feature upgrades, and functionality improvements.
  • Provide Spacecraft Testing and Off Nominal condition Troubleshooting and Cause as well as Corrective Action support as required.
  • Provide data reduction, analysis, and archival products and support for Spacecraft testing data and telemetry.
  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and post-test, Data Reviews.
  • Test Equipment Embedded Software
  • Work closely with EGSE Engineers interpreting Testing Hardware Requirements, Features and Functionality and applying the vendor-provided to EGSE Software and Firmware development.
  • Write EGSE Rack Level Software/Firmware which could include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Drivers in C++ utilizing vendor provided Application Program Interfaces (API's)
  • Develop serial communication software interfaces between vendor-supplied disciplines instead the vendor-provided,, of the Real-Time EGSE RS-422 and RS-485 hardware and Spacecraft Flight Avionics
  • Create Command Line Interpreters (CLI’s)
  • Support and or Perform EGSE Software Design Reviews and Code Walk-Throughs.
  • Write and maintain Software Documentation for Configuration Control of EGSE Software Products.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth!
  • BS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of applicable experience; Advanced Degree taken into consideration in lieu of years of experience.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

 

Candidate Must Have one or more of the following skills:

  • C/C++ and or Python Software Development, preferably in both Windows and Linux – Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) & Community Enterprise Operating System (CentOS) Linux
  • Qt Modeling Language (QML)
  • GitLab
  • Visual Studio Code (VScode)
  • Rockwell Automation Studio 5000

Candidate Nice-to-Have skills:

  • Specifying and or utilizing Software Requirements
  • Familiarity with Consultative Committee for Space Systems (CCSDS) File Delivery Protocol (CFDP)
