Summary of Job Duties:

The selected applicant will work under the direction of Dr. Brittni Littlejohn in the area of beef cattle physiology and prenatal programming. Specifically, the selected applicant will work with Dr. Littlejohn’s laboratory group and collaborators on projects evaluating the influence of endophyte-infected, toxic, tall fescue consumption by pregnant cattle supplemented with or without melatonin on dam and offspring physiology. Other projects may include the evaluation of gossypol as a method of reproductive control in domestic hogs as a method of feral hog control. The selected applicant will have the opportunity to learn a range of laboratory and field techniques and conduct research as directed by the PI. The selected applicant will be given the opportunity to be involved with laboratory analyses, project design, data collection, program implementation, animal husbandry, data analyses, technical writing and public speaking. Assisting with undergraduate courses in animal science may also be expected depending upon prior training and departmental needs. Scholarly activity resulting in peer reviewed publications and presentations is required. This position is a full-time twelve-month appointment. Some evening and weekend commitments will be expected.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: A BS degree in Animal Science or related field, plus three years of professional experience OR a MS degree in Animal Science or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD or PhD candidate in Animal Science or closely related discipline

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Prior educational training in Animal Science, or closely related discipline. Ability to conduct laboratory analyses, project design, data collection, program implementation, animal husbandry, data analyses, technical writing and public speaking.
