As a Technical Publications Specialist, you will work independently to analyzes and monitor complex publications, and collaborate cross-functionally to create and distribute technical publications. You will establish and maintain internal and external company contacts for Collins Aerospace equipment and/or specific platform subject matter expertise.
This position will work onsite in our Sterling, VA facility.
What You Will Do
Works independently to develop moderately complex technical manuals such as operation and maintenance manuals, maintenance instruction manuals, maintenance requirement cards, technical work cards, user manuals, instructor operator handbooks, training documentation, and other technical documentation
Researches and analyzes Engineering drawings consisting of product tree, assembly, installation, parts list, cable list, wiring diagrams, and schematic diagrams as well as utilizes system architecture diagrams, Engineering specifications, and test procedures to develop new or revise existing technical manuals
Works with engineers and other technical personnel to develop and verify technical manual content
Develops illustrations and diagrams of Engineering drawings utilizing Adobe Illustrator and/or CorelDraw
Participates in determining objectives of assignments. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities to accomplish objectives
Develops technical manuals and training documentation in accordance with various military standards, Technical Manual Contract Requirements (TMCRs), and Data Item Descriptions (DIDs)
Assigns work and provides guidance to lower-level technical writers
Provides editing and formatting support of Engineering documentation
Participates in peer reviews of documentation developed by colleagues
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
Active and transferable U.S. Department of Defense issued security clearance is required prior to start date
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Prior experience using Microsoft Office 365
Working knowledge of PTC Arbortext Editor, Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw is required
Technical Writing experience within the aerospace and defense industry is required
