Accounting Analyst

Job Summary:
The Accounting Analyst will perform reconciliations, record journal entries, and assist in the preparation of financial statements, internal reports, and regulatory filings. The Accounting Analyst will also prepare and process natural gas settlements. This position will work with other team members and departments to reconcile counterparty invoices and to understand how deal and contract terms impact financial statements.
Essential Job Functions:
- Reconcile Gas Management System (GMS) subsidiary ledger data with the general ledger
- Record journal entries to the general ledger
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements
- Monitor cash flow through the preparation of cash flow projections
- Assist in the preparation of bank and regulatory filings
- Review and verify supplier invoices for volume and price accuracy
- Communicate with various departments including Trading, Scheduling, Contract Compliance, and Deal Capture Control to understand deal and contract terms and appropriately resolve volume and price discrepancies
- Respond to customer and supplier settlement questions in a timely and professional manner
- Prepare payment requests consistent with the terms of the agreements
- Post cash receipts to GMS ensuring agreement with bank statements
- Assist with annual financial audit, including preparation of supporting financial schedules

Education/Experience/Skills
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent accounting background required
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize and organize a variety of tasks
- Ability to independently research and resolves discrepancies
- Detail oriented, analytical mindset and problem-solving skills
- Strong desire to continually learn and understand the natural gas industry
- Dedicated worker, self-starter with a high level of initiative, assertiveness, curiosity and inquisitiveness
- Strong work ethic and team attitude.
Physical Demands:
Ability to use standard office equipment such as PC, telephone, calculator, printer, copy and fax machines. Position may require extended work hours on short notice. All work will be performed in an indoor office environment and may require extended periods of sitting, standing and bending and typing/data entry. The job may also include driving, and airline travel. Travel may be required to attend meetings in other office buildings including local and domestic.
