Job Title: Senior Human Resources Generalist
Location: Onsite – Local Hub (California)
Classification: Exempt, Full-Time
Reports To: Director of HR
Pay Range: $115K – $135K annually (final offer will be based on experience, skills, and location)
Role Overview
The Senior Human Resources Generalist is a key, hands-on HR partner supporting a predominantly non-exempt, hourly workforce in a fast-paced, multi-site environment. This role partners closely with operations leadership to drive consistent HR practices, ensure compliance with California and federal employment laws, and foster a positive, high-performing employee experience.
This is a highly visible, individual contributor role requiring strong judgment, deep employee relations experience, and the ability to balance compliance with practical business needs.

Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & HR Leadership
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for assigned locations
- Lead and conduct complex employee relations investigations, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations in compliance with California law
- Provide guidance to managers on corrective action, documentation, and performance management
- Partner with leadership to proactively address workplace concerns and mitigate risk
- Promote a respectful, inclusive, and legally compliant work environment
Time, Pay & Attendance Compliance
- Ensure compliance with California wage and hour laws, including:
- Meal and rest break requirements
- Daily and weekly overtime rules
- Accurate timekeeping practices
- Partner with Payroll to resolve timecard discrepancies and pay issues
- Train managers on compliant scheduling and timekeeping practices
- Monitor and address potential compliance risks (off-the-clock work, missed breaks, etc.)
Onboarding, Offboarding & Employee Lifecycle
- Oversee onboarding processes, including I-9 compliance and policy acknowledgments
- Manage employee status changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations
- Support compliant offboarding processes, including final pay requirements under California law
- Ensure accurate and timely HR documentation and recordkeeping
Policy, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure consistent application of company policies in alignment with California employment laws
- Support compliance with:
- California sick leave and leave of absence laws (e.g., CFRA)
- Pay transparency requirements
- Harassment prevention training requirements
- Maintain personnel records in compliance with California record retention requirements
- Support audits, reporting, and regulatory compliance initiatives
- Assist with workers’ compensation claims and workplace safety coordination
Manager Partnership & Coaching
- Act as a trusted advisor to frontline managers and site leaders
- Coach managers on:
- Performance management
- Attendance and discipline
- Employee engagement and retention
- Support delivery of training on compliance, leadership, and workplace conduct
- Help drive consistency across locations while allowing for operational flexibility
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including significant employee relations experience
- Significant knowledge of California employment laws, including wage & hour, leave laws, and employee protections
- Experience supporting non-exempt/hourly workforces in operational environments
- Demonstrated experience conduc
