About the role

Manages training for security staff and other SJ employees. Identifies and monitor training needs for the department and St. Jude staff. Designs, plans, and implements training programs, policies, and procedures to fulfill those needs. This includes Active Shooter Training, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), CPR/First Aid and Workplace Violence. Creates training materials and manages trainers.

  • Manages training for security staff and other SJ employees.  Identifies and monitor training needs for the department and St. Jude staff. Designs, plans, and implements training programs, policies, and procedures to fulfill those needs. This includes Active Shooter Training, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), CPR/First Aid and Workplace Violence. Creates training materials and manages trainers.
  • Establish goals and evaluates training needs for employees. Collaborate with Security leadership to establish goals for Security training programs. Develops training policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization and department. Conducts or facilitates required and recommended training sessions.
  • Evaluates training programs and oversees training events. Review training course materials to ensure training materials and programs are current, accurate, and effective. Creates and implements specialized training for specific needs. Identifies problems and opportunities such as operational changes or security developments that can be improved through training. Collaborates with vendors and third-party providers to arrange employee registration and participation in outside training programs.
  • Develop and facilitate Security New Hire Orientations and related programs as required.
  • Oversee training resources and maintain records of training materials.
  • Monitor training expenses to ensure compliance with budgetary constraints
  • Ensure that training milestones and goals are met.
  • Performs other related duties in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High school/GED required.
  • Associate of Arts (A.A) degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences discipline preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • 7 years prior experience in a security program, police organization, military branch, or conflict counseling is required.
  • Conflict resolution experience required.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • Basic Life Support Instructor within 1 year of hire date.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 1 year of hire date.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

  • LC: DLD-TN or DLD-ARK or DLD-MISS or DLD-RESIDE. Must have a valid driver’s license from the employee’s state of residence and a valid insurance policy on the vehicle which meets the requirements for the state of Tennessee and be insurable by St. Jude’s insurance carrier.
  • LSGO-TN (Licensed Security Guard/Officer-Tennessee) Must attain Licensed Unarmed Security Officer certification for the State of Tennessee within 60 days of employment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Successfully complete a physical/health screening examination by Occupational Health, which includes a drug screening; successfully meet and maintain Campus Safety and Security physical requirements.

Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work and officers must be able to remain on feet for extended periods of time, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run.   • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must maintain the ability to move about the workspace to access work surface and shelves, cabinets, drawers, and equipment that are at, below or above the work surface.
