Overview: We are seeking direct support professional to assist an individual with intellectual disabilities living at home with his family and is currently navigating the transition into adulthood. He is seeking a reliable, patient, and encouraging staff to assist him in establishing and maintaining daily routines and participating in meaningful community activities.
The individual understands English, but Spanish is his first language. Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are strongly encouraged to apply to help ensure effective communication and comfort.
Location: Hyattsville, MD
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide morning support to help the individual wake up, complete his hygiene routine, and prepare for the day
• Offer gentle guidance and assistance in building consistent morning habits and time management
• Support the individual with household tasks upon his return home in the afternoon (e.g., tidying up, laundry, organizing)
• Encourage and accompany the individual to community activities of his choice (e.g., parks, events, classes, volunteer work)
• Foster independence and self-confidence while respecting the individual’s pace and preferences
• Communicate clearly and respectfully in a culturally sensitive manner, ideally in both Spanish and English
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred
• Experience in personal support, direct care, or mentorship roles
• Compassionate, reliable, and patient demeanor
• Ability to support daily living skills in a respectful and empowering way
• Comfortable participating in community outings and light physical activity
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred (if community participation support requires it)

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19
- High School Diploma
- Valid Driver’s License
- Possess a strong service orientation, including active listening, critical thinking skills, and close monitoring of individuals supported.
- Comfortable in an environment where individuals supported may not be able to perform essential life duties.
- Ability to work professionally and discretely with confidential information.
- High level of personal and professional integrity.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in a verbal and written manner.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
- Ability to use computer applications to fulfill job duties, including the use of individual documentation system, Microsoft Word, assigned payroll systems, LTSS (as assigned) and vehicle inspection reporting system
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged standing, leaning, walking, bending, and lifting periods.
- Prolonged periods are sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate durable medical equipment.
- Ability to push a wheelchair and occupant with combined weight up to 200 pounds, on occasion.
