We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Automated Playlisting team. This role will be a split between web and backend development. In the short term, with more focus on web development, and it will transition to backend development in the mid and long term.
Our team develops the first generation of SoundCloud's algorithmic playlists. As our algorithms mature, we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will develop the first generation of backend systems and internal tools that will be used by our music experts team to tune, manage and deliver algotorial playlists. You will work in a cross-functional team of data scientists, data engineers, data analysts and music experts. You’ll get to work and take full ownership of new greenfield systems, interact with multiple systems across the company, and work with multiple programming languages while contributing directly to the company's objectives. All of this while maintaining a high bar for reliability and scalability.
Responsibilities:

Develop reliable backend systems applications using Python, Go or Scala.

Develop basic web interfaces for configuring and managing the playlisting data infrastructure and backend systems.

Work closely with Product Managers and Music Experts to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.

Know when to take a prototyping / i.e. breaking things mindset vs. implementing reliable, maintainable and scalable solutions.

Continuously learn and share knowledge of industry best practices on backend, web and/or infrastructure management technologies.

Engage in pair programming or demonstrate an interest in trying it.

Engage in mentoring and providing feedback to mid/junior team members (and not only).
What you need to succeed:

Practical experience in deploying backend services to production (on a public cloud, e.g. GCP, AWS) with demonstrable real business impact.

Good proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or Go

Good proficiency in managing infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, etc...

Good/basic web development skills with Javascript, HTML, and CSS (think simple internal web configuration/management tools).

Good knowledge of web app authentication and user management.

Good understanding of algorithms and data structures

Good communication skills and enjoy working as a part of a cross-functional, solutions-oriented team

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver concise, actionable solutions
