Job Description:

Responsibilities

Health Research Inc. is seeking a Senior Laboratory Technician to work within the Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health. The Senior Laboratory Technician will assist with setting up research experiments on the molecular mechanisms of regulation of drug resistance in mycobacteria. The position involves preparing and setting up for the design and creation of gene knockouts, setting up for next generation of mutant bacteria, and data analysis to decipher regulatory pathways that contribute to intrinsic drug resistance in these bacteria. The incumbent will be responsible for learning established procedures, supporting the establishment of new experimental approaches and assist in generating data for publication.

This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center’s mission in the New York State Department of Health’s efforts to protect and promote the health of New York’s citizens. Come be a part of Science in the Pursuit of Health®!

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting; OR four years of experience in a laboratory or clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Documented research experience in molecular biology and/or microbiology; experience with mycobacterial research and high-throughput technologies; experience working collaboratively.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.

Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
