Research Assistant/Study Tech

Once full trained will require occasional on call and weekend coverage

Daytime hours

What will you be doing?

  • Working with rabbits and other research animals you'll performs basic duties of necropsy/DART and/or basic duties of histology

  • Learns advanced duties of necropsy/DART and/or advanced duties of histology

  • Performs various methods of euthanasia on multiple species according to USDA regulations (if applicable)

  • Participates in quality controls and assures correction of errors (incl. documentation)

  • Reviews own and others data and identifies potential problems

  • Mentors and instructs less experienced staff in basic lab processes

  • Develops new technical procedures or optimizes existing processes in various areas as needed

  • Participates in monitoring and tracking resources (e.g., equipment, rooms, study supplies)

  • Supports client expectations by communicating study specific feedback to team

  • Utilizes computer programs (forms and procedure generation) and systems (data capture)

  • Demonstrates a high degree of adaptability, initiative, and productivity in completion of broad range of routine and non-routine procedures

Experience/Skills/Education

  • Highly prefer candidates with prior DART research study experince, or 1 year of post life animal research experince -relocation assistance may be available!

  • AS Veterinary Technology or related field OR BS/BA in Animal Science, Animal Behavior, Biology, Wildlife Studies, Zoology or Related Life Sciences OR 2 years of college courses in Life Sciences field with 2 years of laboratory experience or 2 years of animal handling experience.

  • AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is preferred, but not required.

  • Preferred but not required prior large and small animal dissection experience
