This position works out of our Burlington, MA location in the Heart Failure Division.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you are an experienced, high caliber Electrical Engineer playing a key role in Abbott’s Heart Failure/Mechanical Circulatory Support (HF/MCS) R&D organization. In this position, you will be a member of the Electrical Engineering R&D team and be primarily responsible for leading new product development activities including requirements definition, feasibility testing, electrical design/updates/documentation, verification testing, component evaluation/qualifications, and support of cross functional project teams. The MCS division of Abbott is known for its HeartMate suite of Ventricular-Assist systems that continue to improve the lives of tens of thousands of patients suffering from heart failure.
The selected candidate will apply electrical engineering knowledge to lead product development activities, manage battery testing, lead design reviews, develop/execute electrical test protocols, write test reports, develop test fixtures/automation, and support other general design and development activities.
What You’ll Work On
- Leads electrical engineering activities.
- Develops V&V test protocols, test execution, and writes test reports.
- Develops test methods, test fixtures, automation SW as needed.
- Supports execution and management of logistics for external testing as needed.
- Participates/contributes to technical design reviews on electrical designs.
- Ensures that program objectives are determined and met, and resources are effectively coordinated.
- Optimizes electrical circuits and battery management systems through characterization, modeling, data analysis and statistics.
- Conducts root cause analysis for high priority design issues.
- Contributes to external technical committees (IEC, ISO, EN, etc.) as a representative of Abbott.
- Position will require infrequent US travel to other Abbott sites, and some local travel to external test sites.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field plus 5+ years of experience.
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field plus 3+ years of experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience in electrical design and qualification.
