Occ Summary

Provide specialized patient care functions as a clinician, educatorand/or a consultant for a specified patient populatio n.


Work Performed

Coordinate with the nursing staff to identify patient care problems,toimplement approaches to these probl ems and to evaluate theeffectiveness of the approaches.Perform clinical evaluations andmake clinical judgments based on a synthesis of concepts, principles,models and theories to solve complex problems.Serve as acons ultant in a nursing specialty area for patients, nurses and otherhealth team members throughout Duke University Medical Center andcommunity agen cies.Participate in departmental and hospitalcommittees and meetings to facilitate improvement of patient care anddevelopment of goals, philosop hies and objectives for a specializedpatient population.Maintain liaison with faculty members ofschools of nursing to arrange and facilitate cli nical experience fornursing students; communicate with faculty members c oncerning students'needs and progress.Coordinate the development and imp lementationof an educational program designed to convey specialized know ledge andskills to nursing personnel.Coordinate plans for the profession aldevelopment of the nursing staff assigned to a specialty unit area and serve as a practitioner of specialized patient care.Perform otherrelated duties incidental to the work described herein.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. Certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CCNS) is required.
