General Notes

The Research Engineering/Science Associate IV position will be part of the Coastal Carbon Cycle Laboratory of the Marine Science Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. This position is located in Port Aransas, Texas

Responsibilities

  • Join field and lab-based experiment, perform data collection and interpretation for a newly funded NSF project that studies alkalinity cycle in coastal environment under different hydrological conditions.
  • Present research results at public meetings and national/international meetings.
  • Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed national/international journals.
  • Collaborate with other members of the lab group, and mentor undergraduate/early career graduate students in the lab.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in marine chemistry, chemical oceanography, or a related field with four years of experience.
  • Experience in seawater carbonate chemistry studies, including both shipboard experience and experience working with in situ sensors (pH and pCO2).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience communicating scientific findings to a broad audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree by the time of hire in marine chemistry, chemical oceanography, or a related field.
  • Experience in sediment geochemical analysis, familiar with sediment sulfur/sulfide analysis and data interpretation.
  • Experience with numerical and statistical modeling of natural systems.
  • Working knowledge in programming languages such as MatLab and/or R.
  • Experience with project management and ability to meet project goals in a timely manner.

Salary Range

$59,000

Working Conditions

  • Daily work involves corrosive chemicals and heavy metals,
  • Occasional extended work hours due to fieldwork
  • Fieldwork can be under adverse weather conditions
  • Normal office setting
