Position Specific Description
The Utility Scale Energy Storage team is looking for an innovative and dynamic Project Manager who is passionate about renewable energy. In this position you will be heavily involved with battery augmentation projects from design to execution, to include exposure to cross functional teams across the NextEra Energy Resources organization. You will be part of a growing team of experts who not only provide excellent data-driven inputs and analysis but are also customer service oriented with internal and external stakeholders.
Employees in this role are strong problem solvers, blending creative and analytical skills to solve complex integration of batteries of differing technologies to existing sites. Successful candidates will have acute attention to detail with proven abilities to identify and apply lessons learned, implement process countermeasures, create tools and standardize work practices to maximize the efficiency of current and future projects. You will use utilize data from various internal and external sources to perform technical due diligence and propose storage & hybrid solutions to support our customers’ evolving needs. As a support function, you will work collaboratively across the organization to support design, construction and commissioning.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages multiple concurrent high volume battery augmentation projects from conception through execution, working closely with Power Generation, Business Management, Engineering and pre-construction and construction project managers
- Lead early-stage project efforts, including storage sizing, scope of work definition and schedule creation
- Coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analysis, engineering/design review, resource analysis and legal review
- Lead efforts in brownfield permitting, interconnection agreement modification, and construction RFPs
- Supports energy storage strategies through technical and market analysis
- Develops models and dashboards designed to improve management of projects, enhance team collaboration and identify valuable insights to maximize the benefit to all stakeholders
- Supports the composition of contractual arrangements for project development
- Participates in negotiating agreements with consultants and subcontractors
- Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
- Supports detailed design engineering of major components for augmentation projects
- Influences project teams in the engineering aspects of the technical work
- Collaborates with suppliers to successfully integrate major equipment
- Collaborates with multi-disciplined teams for problem solving, process improvement opportunities, and system integration and controls
- Identifies value engineering opportunities as well as emerging technologies prospects
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Preferred Work Experience
- An SME in substation or utility scale energy storage design and/or project management, with established expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Power electronics
- Battery storage system design
- Substation design
- Generation tie design
- Management and/or operation of large-scale projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders, including creation and adherence to schedule, budget and resource plans
- Strong knowledge of technologies in energy storage including varying battery chemistries, power conversion units and DC/DC converters
- Lithium ion battery storage safety: familiarity with UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, applicable IFC/IBC sections
- Familiarity with GIA material modification adjustment (MMA) processes, particularly in WECC and CAISO
- Construction permitting and contracting experience
- Shows maturity of technical expertise and assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives
