Job Description Summary:

The Simulation Operations Manager operates within the strategic framework established by the Simulation Medical Director and provides essential administrative and operational leadership for the KU School of Medicine–Wichita Simulation Center. This role ensures the center functions efficiently, supports high-quality educational experiences, and contributes to the broader mission of the institution through collaboration, innovation, and team development.

Working in close partnership with faculty and staff, the Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, supervising center personnel, optimizing resource use, and actively supporting simulation events. This position serves as a vital bridge between vision and execution, enabling the Simulation Center to meet its educational, operational, and strategic goals.

Job Description:

    Job Duties Outlined

    • Direct the daily operations of the simulation center, including scheduling, logistics, and coordination of simulation activities.

    • Oversee the procurement, inventory, maintenance, and lifecycle planning of simulation equipment and supplies. Work within budgetary constraints and collaborates with relevant departments to ensure optimal allocation of resources and functionality of simulation spaces.

    • Supervise simulation center staff. Provide onboarding, foster professional growth, promote strong team dynamics, and ensure staffing aligns with evolving programmatic needs.

    • Partner with the Medical Director to establish and maintain policies, procedures, and protocols that govern the safe and effective use of the simulation center.

    • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and national best practices.

    • Assist in developing and managing the center’s budget, monitors expenditures, identifies cost-saving strategies, and support pursuit of funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships.

    • Lead initiatives to ensure the quality and safety of simulation-based education. Conduct regular reviews of center operations, evaluate training outcomes, and ensure timely maintenance of equipment and technology.

    • Prepare regular reports and dashboards to inform the Medical Director and leadership on center utilization, learner engagement, operational metrics, and strategic progress.

    • Lead or contribute to special projects, renovations, and technology upgrades.

    • Participate in simulation events by supporting logistics, coordinating flow, troubleshooting in real time, and ensuring the learner experience is seamless.

    • Remain current with advancements in simulation, educational technology, and operational leadership through networking, conference attendance, and engagement in professional development activities.

    Required Qualifications

    Work Experience:

    • Four years of relevant work experience. Relevant education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. 

    • Three years of supervisor experience.

    • Experience in an academic, healthcare, or simulation-based learning environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education: Master's degree in a health-related discipline, education, business, public administration or a related field.

    Certifications: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or equivalent.

    Work Experience:

    • Experience in simulation-based education, including hands-on support of simulation events.

    • Budget development, financial tracking, and project management experience, including space or equipment upgrades.

    • Experience with simulation equipment (e.g., high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, AV systems).

    • Experience with simulation software platforms (e.g., Learning Management Systems, audiovisual capture, scheduling tools).

    • Experience managing operations and coordinating educational programming or training activities.
