Cortex Team is Walmart’s core A.I. conversational platform, powering the vision of delivering the world’s best personal assistants to Walmart’s customers, accessible via natural voice commands, text messages, rich UI interactions, and a mix of all of the above via multi-modal experiences.

We believe conversations are a natural and powerful user interface for interacting with technology and enable a richer customer experiences – both online and in-store. We are building and designing the next generation of Natural Language Understanding (NLU) services that other teams can easily integrate and leverage, and build rich experiences: from pure voice and text shopping assistants (Siri, Sparky), to customer care channels, to mobile apps with rich, intertwined, multi-modal interaction modes (Me@Walmart).

We need a passionate and seasoned manager to help us improve and evolve our capabilities, taking into account the full conversational context, multi-modal interactions, and an ever increasing list of use cases.

This role leads overall programs, partnering with project teams and business partners, and supports problem solving efforts. You will provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to team members, along with supporting their development of business and technical skills. This is a highly technical data science team, at the forefront of LLM productization, so for this role you need to be tech savvy and have professional experience in one or more data science specializations, preferably NLP. You will also need to be able to identify and develop top talent.

This role is also expected to collaborate with other Data Science Managers across the organization for aligning strategies and effectively managing talent. These responsibilities require effective communication skills, building relationships and partnerships, and leveraging business proficiency to solutions and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters degree in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or related technical discipline
• 3+ years with an engineering or data-science individual contributor role.
• 2+ years of hands-on management experience
• 2+ years experience collaborate directly with cross functional team such as product, business stakeholders on clarifying business requirement and presenting machine learning solutions
• Ability to manage innovative technology project
• Ability to manage multiple business stakeholders and technology leaders simultaneously.
