About the role

Summary

The Department of Medicine is seeking an experienced Business Operations Director to lead the strategic direction of the sections of Gastroenterology and Hepatology to ensure the current and long-term business goals are met. Managing multiple managers and professional staff, the Director will provide mentorship to the team across all missions and functional areas including research, education, clinical, and business operations. The Director will function as the dyad partner with the chiefs of the various sections to develop long-term strategic plans.

 

The ideal candidate will have a blend of clinical and research administration experience, coupled with a robust foundation in people and financial management in order to seamlessly navigate the Section’s complex portfolio of clinical service lines and funded research. 

 

This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus and a hybrid work schedule.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for developing and directing the long-range strategic business plan for the Section. This includes preparation of business analyses, proposals, implementation plans for new programs, and the design and implementation of changes to existing programs.
  • Direct the daily operation of multiple sections including, but not limited to, areas of human resources, compliance and financial management.
  • Manage multiple teams led by managers and professionals, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and goals, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Oversee financial management and accountability of multiple functions, to include budget administration, performing cost assessments, monitoring financial transactions, and financial reporting. Make strategic decisions based on the financial data.
  • Develop staffing plans and productivity guidelines according to budget availability and department/unit needs.
  • Create partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve strategic aims.
  • Develop and implement successful strategies for revenue growth, expense control, and operational efficiency.
  • Negotiate and implement the human resources activities for the section, including hiring, terminations, salary, and disciplinary actions.
  • Formulate policies and guidelines for Section activities.
  • Lead the creation, identification, and analysis of metrics to improve business performance and drive business actions.
  • Direct special projects or programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Eleven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree and seven years of directly related experience with four years of supervisory experience will also be considered.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA).
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to gain the confidence of faculty, staff, leaders, colleagues, etc.
  • Executive presence, judgement, and positive personal track record in leading in a dynamic organization.
  • Dynamic and polished communication style and capability across all executive and management levels, displaying executive presence, savvy and collegiality.
  • Highly detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues.
  • Candidates will have a working interview to demonstrate knowledge of financial and research administration.
