About the role

The Environmental Staff Engineer/Scientist will support the existing workload and growth of the Due Diligence and Remediation department in the Reno office by conducting environmental assessments and remediation projects. The position will be supervised by a senior environmental professional. The ability to prioritize tasks and work autonomously, in both an office and field setting, is a must. Responsibilities will encompass range of tasks including  technical writing, fieldwork, data evaluation, and interaction with clients and regulators.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) in accordance with ASTM standards, analyzing historical land use and potential environmental concerns.
  • Assist in Phase II ESA investigations, conducting soil and groundwater sampling, analyzing samples for contaminants, and evaluating risks to human health and the environment.
  • Participate in remediation projects, including the design, implementation, and monitoring of remedial actions to mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Perform fieldwork activities such as site visits, sampling, and environmental monitoring to assess the condition of properties and identify areas requiring remediation.
  • Compile and analyze data collected during fieldwork and laboratory analysis, preparing technical reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers/scientists in interpreting data and developing strategies for addressing environmental challenges.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand project objectives, provide updates on project progress, and address any concerns or questions.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits, approvals, and clearances for environmental assessment and remediation activities.
  • Stay updated on relevant regulations, guidelines, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and enhance the quality of project deliverables.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental procedures and protocols to streamline processes and optimize project outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting with a focus on due diligence, site assessments and remediation projects.
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards related to environmental assessments and remediation (e.g., ASTM E1527-21 for Phase I ESAs, ASTM E1903-19 for Phase II ESAs).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Experience conducting Phase II Site Investigations and long-term monitoring or remediation projects, including the preparation of appropriate investigation design and work plans, overseeing drilling contractors, collecting soil, groundwater, and vapor samples under proper chain of custody, reviewing and interpreting laboratory analytical data, and preparing associated reports and recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a proactive and collaborative approach a fast-paced and creative environment.
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork in various environmental conditions and travel to project sites as needed.
  • Ability to follow company and client safety protocols and maintain a safe working 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Lead and asbestos survey/testing experience.

Physical & Travel Requirements:

  • Travel regionally as needed for client meetings, site visits, and other support.
  • Work out-of-town for varying amounts of time (over-night trips typically).
  • Wear personal protective equipment.
  • Perform duties outside of normal working hours, as necessary.
