About the role
Amazon is seeking a highly motivated Principal to join our NA Surface Transportation Safety & Compliance team. Our ideal candidate possesses a strong project management and people management background. They will have experience in development and implementation of new technology to large workforces (thousands of people, and multiple organizations both internal and external to Amazon).
Your role will be to build and deploy our video camera safety technology program in Class 8 tractors in partnership with third party vendors, business, tech, and operations partners to improve on-road safety and compliance across middle-mile operations. Once the technology is deployed, you will relentlessly educate and advocate for further adoption, while refining the program to accurately identify risk based on incoming data, and customer and stakeholder feedback. You will design mechanisms that help the ultimate users of this technology (drivers and their managers) to pursue safety improvement. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. You must be comfortable diving deep on the strategic, technical, and tactical levels, simultaneously acting as an internal ambassador, educator, analyst, solutions architect, and implementer.
Key job responsibilities
-Lead a team of program managers to deliver complex, large scale, strategic programs from initiation through delivery, on-time and with quality.
-Proactively identify and mitigate program risks and obstacles by collaborating closely with business partners and key tech and non-tech stakeholders. This includes effectively communicating with, and influencing, senior, VP-level stakeholders across multiple parts of the organization.
-Work with technology and analytics teams to design the right technical features to identify on-road risks.
-Dive deep into large and complex data sets. Partner with BI and tech teams to create metrics and reporting to quantify on-road risks, and incorporate them into understandable accountability mechanisms (like scorecards for carriers and/or drivers).
About the team
We incorporate the safety of those who use public roadways and private yards into our business, technology, and operational plans. Our team continually assesses Middle Mile transportation hardware, software, physical assets, physical infrastructure, and operational standard work to identify how we can improve safety and compliance performance. And once we identify winning solutions, we implement them at scale.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Nashville, TN, USA
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years of cross functional project delivery experience
- 7+ years of program or project management experience
- Experience writing documents on topics such as process improvement proposals, business requirements, product roadmap and proof of concept.
- PMP certification
