The Department

We are an agile team working within an entrepreneurial business. Our software is built in close collaboration with our consultants and in partnership with our customers, which provides us with a feedback loop and lean mindset that is not usually possible in a heavily regulated market.

We believe technology will fundamentally change the way actuaries work in the life insurance industry, making them more efficient, effective, and informed. We are not only changing the way actuaries work; we are changing the way actuarial solutions are built and delivered.

The Role

The Software Engineering Delivery Lead is responsible for facilitating collaboration of cross-functional teams to deliver against our strategic goals. They are an advocate for Agile delivery techniques, helping coach team members on these values. They have a strong foundation in software engineering, process improvement, quality management, DevOps, and Agile software development principles. They have a proven track record of navigating complex business requirements. They are able to demonstrate that they are a natural problem-solver who is confident in building relationships and proactive at managing deliverables. 

This is a hands-on role and able to lead by example and get involved in the day-to-day activities required with successful software engineering of Milliman LTS products. 

Your Responsibilities:

  •  Provide direction and guidance on Agile methodology.
  •  Ensure the team is fully functional and productive - limit noise, remove blockers, foster communications and enforce working agreements.
  •  Report on progress against our delivery goals to a wide range of stakeholders across the organisation.
  •  Monitor that best practices are consistently applied in development, testing, security, quality, support, and reporting.
  •  Support work management by facilitating discussions around triage, prioritization, requirements gathering, and planning.
  •  Maintain integrity of team backlog and roadmap.
  •  Drive a culture of continuous improvement throughout the team - learning from data and from mistakes.
  •  Collaborate with peers to drive consistent processes across entire enterprise.
  •  Provide timely information to stakeholders; raising risks and highlighting any issues, to keep the team on track and on time.

Key Relationships: 

  •  Software Engineering teams; including architects, developers, UI/UX designers, technical writers and quality engineers,
  •  Actuarial and data scientist teams
  •  Business Product Owners
  •  Product Support Teams

Job Knowledge, Experience Skills

Job Knowledge Required:

  •  Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience.
  •  Solid understanding of Software Development, Testing Lifecycles and Agile methodology.

Experience and Soft Skills Required:

  •  Experience in facilitating process change including setting new ways of working; supporting and encouraging others to adhere to desired process and holding peers accountable to explicit outcomes.
  •  A strong willingness and ability to learn, collaborate and coach.
  •  Exceptional communication skills, creating trust through authenticity and knowing when to react and challenge.
  •  Highly proactive and organized with the ability to manage ambiguity and work on multiple work streams simultaneously.
  •  Has attention to detail, even when under pressure.

Location

It is preferred that candidates work on-site at our Chicago, IL office. Remote candidates will be considered.

Compensation

The overall salary range for this role is $131,600 - $260,640.

For candidates residing in:

  • Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the salary range is $144,760 - $238,920. 
  • New York City, Newark, San Jose, or San Francisco the salary range is $157,920 - $260,640
