Regular Full Time Status: Exempt / Salary Reports to: Dentist
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list of all duties/responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned)
- Assess and obtain clinical evidence of patient's level of periodontal health.
- Assess the patient’s medical history.
- Develop appropriate diagnostic radiographs.
- Develop and manage treatment and sequence of treatment of periodontal disease for patients.
- Assist Dentist to treat chronic periodontal conditions, i.e.: periodontal disease, gingivitis, ANUG, and acute periodontal abscess.
- Assist with mechanical and ultrasonic instrumentation (scaling and root-planning removal of calculus), supra-gingival removal of plaque and coronal polishing.
- Use fluorides and other medicaments as necessary.
- Assist Dentist to identify special patient needs, such as adjunctive antibiotics, rinses, or hygiene aids.
- Educate patients in all aspects of oral hygiene, consequences, and treatment options for periodontal disease.
- Help dental assistant to clean the exam room, stock treatment instruments and prepare materials.
- Record treatment in dental records, chart periodontal probing, and update hygiene tracking sheets
- Under supervision of dentist, may deliver appropriate local anesthesia for patient comfort.
- Under supervision of dentist, may perform expanded function duties (amalgam packing and carving, temporary fillings, alginate impressions, temporary crown cementation)
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to multi-task, manage time, meet deadlines, and remain calm and professional under pressure.
- Potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids, or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.
- Some exposure to hazards or physical risks (i.e., Blood, Sharps, Needles), which requires following basic safety precautions.
- Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require knowledge and understanding of OSHA protocols.
- Maintain standards of confidentiality of CC Idaho clients and records
- PHI (Protected Health Information) Compliance
- Perform all work duties and activities in compliance with CC Idaho, Joint Commission, OSHA and HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications
Required
- Graduate from accredited dental hygiene school
- Licensure to practice in Idaho State
- Basic computer skills
Preferred
- Two years of private practice in dental hygiene
- Ability to read, speak, and write in both English/Spanish in a business setting.
Required Physical Demands
- Is required to stand for long periods of time; must frequently walk; climb or balance, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; reach with hands and arms; grasping/holding.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment
Work in an office setting; the work may be stressful; the noise level is moderate; may be exposed to electrical shock and fumes or airborne particles.
