Family Educator - Head Start - Bilingual Required

Come join the Head Start team as a Family Educator and make a difference helping children and their families! The Family Educator works with families in a home-visit setting to provide resources and referrals to assist with family goal setting and self-sufficiency. The person in this position works with other team members to provide services in the areas of: education, health, nutrition, disabilities accommodation, family services, and parental involvement. The Family Educator assists families in becoming an advocate for their children by encouraging involvement in their education. This person will support families in becoming active members of their communities and active in their children's education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree in social work or a related field.
- One year experience in social service delivery or case management.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
- Driver qualifications required for this position. Driver license, auto insurance and satisfactory drive record for the past 3 years are required.
- Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
- CPR/First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
- Food Handlers Card or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must successfully pass a pre-physical examination.
- Candidate must pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience in early childhood education or Head Start programs preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiencies in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel) and videoconferencing platforms.
- Bilingual English-Spanish skills are required for this position.
- To qualify as bilingual, staff must pass a bilingual exam demonstrating fluent speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
Health
- Supports families in obtaining child's physical and mental examination.
- Assists families with obtaining and maintaining health insurance, medical home and dental home.
- Supports program activities regarding health.
- Effectively uses the ChildPlus system for collection and tracking child and family data.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts child hearing, vision, and growth screenings for all enrolled children.
- Ensures that screenings occur for each enrolled child within no later than 45 calendar days of each child's start date.
- Performs re-screens for children who do not pass the initial screen and works with family and with members of the Content Area Team (CAT) to ensure that children are referred for professional evaluation.
Home Visits
- Conducts at least two family service home visits per year with a total of 3 contact hours.
- Assists guardians in establishing family goals and action plans; works with guardians and other agencies to coordinate and support goals from pre-existing plans.
- Provides guardians with support in facilitating home learning activities that promote parent and child interactions and help children reach their educational goals.
- Assists guardians in establishing family goals and action plans.
- Maintains ongoing documentation of communication with families.
Parental Involvement and Meetings
- Partners with guardians/providers to organize monthly guardian meetings; supports and trains guardians to facilitate meetings.
- Utilizes parent input and program requirements to partner with community agencies to arrange guest speakers for parent meetings.
- Develops a system to ensure regular communication regarding parent involvement.
- Recruits, trains and mentors volunteers.
