As the Senior Vice President of Global Energy at Equinix, you will play a critical role in shaping our global energy strategy to support Equinix’s growth objectives and enhance operational resilience. This SVP role encompasses oversight of all energy-related activities, including power sourcing, energy procurement, managing relationships with utility providers, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
In this position, you will lead initiatives to optimize energy costs, expanding the use of renewable energy, and reducing the carbon footprint of our worldwide data center portfolio. This role is critical in enabling Equinix to achieve its long-term goals of increased capacity, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
Key responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a visionary global energy strategy aligned with Equinix’s business objectives, emphasizing cost efficiency, sustainable growth, and reliable power availability.
Energy Sourcing and Procurement:
Oversee global energy procurement, including the negotiation of power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other energy contracts to secure reliable, cost-effective energy.
Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with energy suppliers, utilities, and renewable energy developers to support the company’s growth.
Renewable Energy and Sustainability: Drive the expansion of renewable energy across our data center portfolio and lead initiatives to enhance the company’s energy resilience.
Data Center Power Strategy:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure energy capacity planning aligns with Equinix’s site selection, design, and operational strategies.
Guide power infrastructure investments to ensure scalable, efficient, and future-proofed energy solutions that support long-term growth targets.
Cost Management: Monitor and control energy costs, implementing strategies for cost reduction through efficient procurement and energy management practices.
Capacity Planning: Oversee power capacity planning and load forecasting to ensure that our infrastructure can meet current and future demands while minimizing waste.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, national, and international energy regulations, including environmental standards and reporting requirements.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with energy supply, pricing volatility, and regulatory changes that could impact operations.
Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with external stakeholders, including energy suppliers, regulators, and sustainability organizations, to promote the company’s energy initiatives and commitments.
Team Leadership: Inspire and lead a diverse global team, fostering a high-per
formance culture centered on accountability, agility and innovation. Collaborate with leaders cross-functionally to deliver Equinix's vision.
Knowledge and experience
Substantial leadership experience in energy management, energy procurement, or related fields, with significant experience at an executive level.
Proven track record in driving large-scale, global energy strategies, including renewable energy initiatives and infrastructure development.
Experience in data center operations, utilities, or a similar mission-critical environment.
Strong financial acumen with solid experience of managing large-scale budgets for global organizations.
Excellent cross-functional leadership and influencing skills, with the proven ability to drive results through collaboration across diverse teams.
Strong people leadership skills, with demonstrated success in developing future leaders and managing globally dispersed teams.
