Position Description:

The Research Grants Specialist II position will manage post-award activities within the College of Arts and Sciences, supporting an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts using knowledge of grant and contract management rules and regulations, technical expertise, and analytical skills. This position will provide consultation and recommendations for faculty and staff on using financial resources. The Research Grants Specialist II will assist with training of PIs and other grant personnel on grant related activities.  Inform management of any potential post-award management concerns.

Duties include:

  • First point of contact for assigned grants and contracts in all financial matters. Provide expert advice to principal investigators (PIs) to facilitate data-driven financial decisions that align with the grant goals and funding agency policies. Collaborate with PIs and the Associate Dean for Research to manage grants from post-award through closeout, ensuring compliance with external funding requirements and internal budgetary standards.

  • Manage the fiscal operations of assigned grants and contracts, ensuring compliance and accuracy. Conduct monthly budget analysis, including tracking expenses, identify and correct discrepancies, and reviewing financial documentation. Prepare, analyze, and communicate budget and financial reports to PIs and Associate Dean, while assisting in strategic budget preparation and forecasting.

  • Work with the Office of sponsored Programs Administration (OSPA), Grant Accounting, and the A&S Research Office Manager to ensure the accurate and timely set-up of funding (new, continuing, and modifications), cost-share accounts, and subawards.

  • Provide technical advice for and problem resolution for the school/unit financial community on financial administration of grants and contracts. Serve as a liaison with Sponsored Programs and EVPRI offices to resolve grant financial discrepancies.

  • Assist the Research Dean with training PIs and other grant personnel on grant-related topics and with the orientation, training and development of new team members. Identify and implement innovative solutions to streamline operations. Facilitate innovative solutions to address complex financial challenges. Lead and actively engage in monthly meetings focused on financial and administrative matters.

  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to manage finances and budget documents.

  • At least two years of experience in grants management or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage time well and work to a deadline.

  • Experience working with faculty/students or in an academic setting.

  • Familiarity with Cayuse and other budgeting and tracking procedures and requirements.

  • Proficiency in communication, budgeting/finance, project management, and federal grant systems.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure financial/transaction accuracy.

  • Ability to successfully work with others in a collaborative manner.

Target Compensation Maximum:

$87,300.00

Target Compensation Minimum:

$58,200.00

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
