We are looking for a Director, Procurement - O&M to lead a team of professionals to manage day-to-day efficiencies and establish support to the Asset Management and Operations teams to drive availability and thereby maintain revenues across all sites in North America. This will require a very close alignment with the strategic arm of procurement.
Responsibilities:
- Build and manage a strong team of procurement professionals, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
- Manage the teams day to day activities and be a point of escalation where needed
- Closely liaise with the Strategy director to ensure day-to-day operational coverage for asset management and Operations
- Streamline processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency within the procurement function with a Continuous improvement mindset
- Build and develop a “High-performance team” to deliver the operational goals, while constantly working on succession planning and helping them hone their skillset
- Develop strong and effective internal relationships with all levels of the business to ensure that business requirements are reflected within contractual documentation
- Build and maintain effective supplier relationships to ensure that their performance consistently meets, and at times exceed business expectations
- Drive and support negotiations for key contracts, while optimizing the supply base
- Track and ensure achievement of forecasted value and savings targets including productivity plans with the team and with suppliers
- Support the team with personal development and training
- Set the team’s objectives & manage performance
- Reporting to VP Procurement
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a preference for Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, or Business Management required, Master’s Degree Preferred
- Minimum 8 years of working experience in construction, energy, chemical, or other industry with large, capital investment projects, with a focus on procurement or contract management required
- People management experience is desirable
- Significant experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management is essential. This often includes several years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing roles
- Experience in a leadership or managerial capacity is typically required, as Purchasing Directors are responsible for managing teams and making strategic decisions
- Strong negotiation skills are crucial to securing favorable terms and pricing from suppliers and contract management experience
- Ability to analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier capabilities to make informed purchasing decisions
- Proficiency in procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems used for purchasing and inventory management Ability to lead and develop a team of procurement professionals, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
- Experience in applying efficient procurement processes, structures, and analytical tools
- Experience in liaising with senior management within critical departments & building good relationships
- Highly developed analytical and communication skills, combined with a structured work style and a pragmatic hands-on approach
- Understanding of financial principles and cost management to optimize purchasing strategies and control expenses
- Strong ethical standards and integrity are crucial, as Purchasing Directors often handle sensitive financial transactions and vendor relationships
- Sound knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SAP. Ability to learn new systems and tools rapidly
- Readiness to travel both nationally and internationally
