The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory is actively seeking an Assistant Scientist to join our dynamic team. This position focuses on core expertise in the nanofabrication area with broader interests in microelectronics. The areas of interest include but are not limited to energy-efficient electronic systems through the innovative concept of heterointegration, optoelectronics, micro/nano electromechanical system (M/NEMS), RF-electronics, and power electronics.

Major Duties/Key Responsibilities:
In this role, the Assistant Scientist will undertake a range of vital responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Overseeing specific tools within the cleanroom and providing user support that includes training, process development and process integration to support the user community.
- Spearheading a robust research program in the field of microelectronics, with a primary focus on the development of energy-efficient electronics, or related.
- Collaborating with the team of scientists at CNM and in different divisions at Argonne to forge a cohesive vision and execute strategic plans for microelectronics projects. Additionally, this role includes mentoring postdocs and students.
- Engaging in collaborative efforts with scientists beyond our laboratory to advance the scientific mission of our group, the laboratory, and the Department of Energy.
- Developing new collaborations to bring new users as well as offering expertise, managing specific tools providing guidance for their research endeavors at CNM.
- Contributing to the body of knowledge by authoring peer-reviewed papers, technical reports, and proposals for both internal and external dissemination. Furthermore, representing CNM and Argonne by delivering technical presentations at relevant conferences and meetings.
The successful candidate will shoulder the dual responsibility of: i) providing essential scientific and technical support for user experiments and operations within CNM's cleanroom facilities; and ii) developing a world-class research program in nanofabrication/microelectronics, leveraging CNM's unique capabilities in materials, fabrication, and characterizations while pioneering advancements in heterointegration and electrical characterization. This role entails conducting foundational research and development to advance CNM's research initiatives and foster collaboration with an expansive external user community.
Position Requirements
- Ph.D. in the physical sciences or related field
- A strong background in semiconductor device physics
- Substantial expertise in device fabrication with 2D materials.
- Considerable expertise in the micro/nanofabrication.
- Process development in cleanroom environments.
- Proficiency in electrical measurements at the device level are desired skills for this role.
