About the role

The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for the preparation and some review of federal and state income tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations. This role also involves researching and drafting responses to federal and state tax notices, providing accurate and timely resolutions. The Sr. Tax Accountant contributes to all aspects of the tax function, including compliance, reporting, planning, and general tax operations.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position plays a key role in supporting the organization’s tax strategy and ensuring adherence to evolving tax requirements.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance and Return Preparation:
    • Prepare federal, state, and franchise income tax returns, including certain foreign tax forms handled in-house.
    • Gather and prepare data/information necessary to compute quarterly and year-end taxable income.
    • Assist in computing state apportionment factors and preparing related schedules.
  • Tax Provision and Estimated Tax Process:
    • Assist with the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provisions, including generating journal entries.
    • Support the quarterly estimated income tax process, ensuring timely requests for payments and accurate reporting.
  • Audit Support and Analysis:
    • Provide support for federal and state income tax audits by gathering and organizing requested information.
    • Prepare tax calculations and analyses required in connection with audits.
  • Tax Process Support and Documentation:
    • Perform various tasks in support of the tax return and tax provision preparation process.
    • Maintain organized and accurate tax records to support compliance and reporting requirements.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Level of Formal Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Area of Study: Accounting/Tax or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience within in a large corporation income tax experience at a CPA firm and/or in-house corporate tax department.
  • Special Certifications: CPA preferred.
  • Technical Competencies & Information Systems:             
    • High level of proficiency using MS Office products (Excel, Word, etc.).
    • Experience with OneSource Income Tax Software is preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong skills in:
      • Preparation of reconciliations.
      • Monthly close processes.
      • Journal entries and general ledger use.
      • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
  • Personal Attributes & Other/Preferred:
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet deadlines.
