Essential Functions
- Assists Bureau Chief in serving as a technical veterinary specialist for the statewide program of inspection.
- Serves as full line supervisor.
- Assists Bureau Chief in serving as a technical veterinary specialist for the statewide program of inspection.
- Performs extensive liaison work with field staff, other governmental agencies and industry representatives relative to meat and poultry inspection.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and four years of professional experience in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of animals and poultry for disease and parasite infestation, or the inspection and determination of wholesomeness of meat and poultry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers certification in agency approved Public Health Veterinary (PHV) Training, and Enforcement, Investigation and Analysis Officer (EIAO) Training program.
- Prefers thorough knowledge of veterinary medicine with particular reference to infectious and contagious diseases and abnormalities of animals and poultry.
- Prefers thorough knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to animal and poultry slaughter, processing, and storage of meat and poultry products.
- Prefers a minimum of four years of experience supervising and directing the work of professional and paraprofessional staff on a regular or intermittent basis.
- Prefers a minimum of four years of experience interpreting and directing the enforcement of appropriate laws, rules, and regulations.
- Prefers a minimum of four years of experience preparing, maintaining and reviewing, if warranted, records and reports relative to the functions and operations conducted.
- Prefers basic proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
