This opportunity is intended for High School Students in their Junior year (will be seniors starting 2025/2026 school year) to complete training required to sit for the Wisconsin Certified Nursing Assistant Certification and then begin employment with Aurora as a Nursing Assistant Youth Apprentice at an Aurora medical center (likely at Aurora Summit Medical Center located in Oconomowoc, Aurora Washington County in Hartford, or a Aurora based in the Greater Milwaukee area) *Other sites may be considered based on business needs.
You will need to be able to commit to working 8 hour shifts (typically a 2PM - 10:30PM or 3PM-11:30PM) depending on the site you are placed. It will be the expectation that you are able to maintain 20 hours a week during school including a weekend and holiday rotation.
Training is held onsite in Oconomowoc, WI – with the exception of a practice day and testing date that is held near out St. Luke's campus in Milwaukee. Training will take place on 1st shift.
We do require perfect attendance for the following dates:
6/27/2025 New Team member orientation
6/30/2025-7/17/2025 (No class 7/4 or 7/5)
7/18/2025 Skills practice day (0800-1200)
7/24/2025 Headmaster testing with the state
After training, you would be placed at an agreed upon site in a second shift opportunity working 20 hours a week.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assists RN with daily care of patients including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation which may include use of therapeutic assistive devices, proper positioning, range of motion and special transferring as indicated.
- Measures and documents blood pressures, TPRs (Temperature, Pulse, Respiration), I & O (Intake and Output), daily weights, and other patient data as requested. Documents accurately in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Performs purposeful rounding under direction of RN and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN. Documents appropriately.
- Participates in admission, transfer and discharge process under supervision of RN including room set up, orientation to room, removing linen, and proper management of patient belongings. Ensures patient call light is always in reach of patient and answers call-lights promptly.
- Completes various errands as directed including pick-up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports. Maintains and orders stock for nursing area. Cleans equipment and work areas.
- Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties which require lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique and assistive devices. Assists in the lifting or transferring of patients using power-driven hoist or lifts as part of a trained team that is led by an adult employee.
- Performs tasks related to nutritional needs of patient under direction of RN to include diet review, tray set up/removal, proper positioning and diet selection. Performs tasks related to maintaining skin integrity to include proper repositioning and skin care. Ensures special patient supplies and appliances are provided and maintained such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.
- Practices within policies and procedures of infection prevention by demonstrating hand hygiene and knowledge of sterile and aseptic procedures, proper disposal of contaminated materials and utilizing proper attire when in direct contact with patients in isolation.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
