The Compression Systems Engineering Mechanical Design Discipline Organization is looking for an experienced, leadership oriented, and highly motivated individual to be the Sr. Design Discipline Manager of the F135 Engine High Pressure Compressor, reporting to the Compressions Systems Engineering HPC Design Associate Director. As a supervisory role in the CIPT Leadership team, the primary objectives are promoting technical excellence, and sustainment support for both new engine production and fielded engines in the USAF and FMS customers fleet. This may include resolving producibility issues and non-conformances of critical engine parts, performing root cause investigations for adverse fielded engine events, and defining new or expanded serviceable limits for critical fielded engine parts to support engine overhauls. Task execution accountability, and enabling staffing strategies that fulfill the business and Program needs. Oversite and approval of standard work and product definition, staff career development, as well as acting as chair for design reviews will be additional responsibilities. There are also requirements for talent development and mentorship of the junior and mid level engineers. This position offers the opportunity to develop supervisory skills while retaining the capability to continue leading and executing technical tasks. This position also offers opportunity for further career growth. Excellent communication skills are highly desirable as typical interactions range from new employees to Program Chief Engineers, CSE leadership, and external military customers and suppliers. This position may require up to 10% travel.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a team of five to eight design engineers. The team includes a mix of direct reports located in West Palm Beach, FL in addition to indirect design engineers located at other P&W sites and outsource companies.
  • Talent development and mentorship of the design team as well as develop staffing plans and strategies with the Associate Director, including writing Inter-divisional Work Authorizations (IDWAs) and Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, with no oversight.
  • Review and approve product definition (prints and models) and Engineering Changes that authorize updates to engine manuals.
  • Chair product reviews, including documentation of meeting minutes, assigning action items, and reviewing actions item closures.
  • Utilize and approve standard work completed by subordinate engineers and utilize CORE tools to continuously improve the design process.

Qualifications You Must Have  

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Mechanical Aerospace Engineering with 10+ years’ Mechanical Design engineering experience, OR, advanced degree with 7+ years’ Mechanical Design engineering experience required.
  • Experience with gas turbines is required
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer                                                                                              

  • Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of compressor design experience that demonstrates an understanding of hardware, blueprints, dimensions & tolerances,
