The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks applicants for the position of Physical Therapist II. This position is an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals in this field to make a significant difference in the lives of the individuals that are supported by DDS. The Physical Therapist II will provide direct and indirect services to address the needs of the individuals supported at the Hogan Regional Center in Danvers.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - This position is assigned to the facility to provide direct clinical services. The Physical Therapist II evaluates the physical therapy needs of developmentally delayed individuals with aggressive and assaultive behaviors, acute psychiatric needs and fragile medical and physical conditions. This position conducts hands-on treatment procedures, determines need for and procures adaptive equipment and oversees its repair.

 

This position facilitates and oversees the rehabilitation and/ or maximal functioning of individuals with physical disabilities. It also provides clinical supervision to physical therapy staff of a lesser pay grade.

 DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -

•  Evaluates individuals' needs for therapy and individual characteristics through examination, interviews, direct observation, record review and by conducting diagnostic tests such as measurement of range of motion, muscle strength, posture, gait, etc. to establish and/or modify treatment plans.

•      Develops and implements treatment plans for individuals by selecting therapeutic exercises and/or activities such as hydrotherapy, infrared, whirlpool baths, massage, application of hot and cold packs, paraffin baths, and/or use of physical

agents such as electricity, sound, etc.) to meet treatment requirements and /or achieve treatment objectives.

•      Instructs individuals and support staff in the proper use and care of prostheses, orthopedic appliances and supportive devices such as wheelchairs, canes) crutches, walkers, etc.

•      Coordinates physical therapy treatment activities with other disciplines to insure effectiveness of individuals) overall treatment programs.

•      Prepares and reviews documentation on individuals' services, progress and response to treatment interventions according to professional standards and facility/regulation guidelines and mandates.

•      Selects and orders appropriate remedial equipment through consultation with designers and providers of adaptive equipment.

•      Provides technical consultation and on-site training to other clinical and support services staff in treatment programs        and equipment.

Reviews and approves physical therapy treatment plans prepared by subordinates

Provides supervision to and monitoring of services provided by subordinates in order to meet treatment goals/objectives and provide work performance reviews.

•      Provides on-going training and job performance feedback to physical therapy staff, students, interns, etc., to insure effective delivery of services and compliance with agency programs and policies.
