Job Purpose
The Accounts Payable Specialist is a part-time position (24 hours per week) that assists in several accounting functions including processing purchase invoices and vendor payments, managing the corporate credit cards, assisting in employee reimbursements, and maintaining essential accounting department records and files. The Accounts Payable Specialist also assists others in the Finance Department, as assigned. (Note: this is an on-site/in person position).
Primary Responsibilities
- Processing purchase invoices, vendor payments, employee reimbursements, and other accounts payable transactions, ensuring for appropriateness, support documentation, routing, and account coding. This process generally includes vendor set up and maintenance, compliance check, approval verification, data entry, entering vendor ACH or wire payment information, and mailing checks.
- Manage the corporate credit cards. Management includes setting up new cardholders, managing the monthly credit card transaction/statement process, setting up and managing approval workflows, reviewing receipts provided with transactions, making sure transactions are approved in a timely manner, training new employees on the BMO Spend Dynamics System for transaction coding, etc.
- Maintain electronic accounts payable files and records.
- Assist with W-9 and year end 1099 and 1042 mailings, as needed.
- Assist in helping Morgridge departments and labs resolve problems related to accounts payable, credit cards, expense reimbursements and/or general accounting questions.
- Assist the finance department with auditing, reviewing and approval of expenses to ensure conformity with funding agencies, and institutional policies and procedures.
- Assist with updating handbooks, manuals, policies/procedures and other documentation, as necessary.
- Provide assistance with other projects and/or performs miscellaneous duties, as necessary to support the mission, goals, and financial objectives of the Morgridge Institute for Research.

Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in accounting or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles necessary (Assets vs. liabilities, debits/credits, expense vs. revenue, etc.)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and familiarity with accounting software is necessary
- Strong data entry skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments at one time

- Accuracy and detail orientation
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Work is normally performed in a typical office environment
