POSITION SUMMARY:
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work in the installation, repair and replacement of plant equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Inspect, repair and maintain a variety of plant equipment including electric motors, engines, pumps, boilers, air compressors, emergency systems, power generation systems, chillers, cranes, power transmission systems.
2. Construct, repair and maintain facilities and grounds.
3. Perform welding, masonry, carpentry, minor machining and plumbing duties.
4. Use test equipment and make operating adjustments to a variety of mechanical equipment.
5. Inspect and set safety switches.
6. Check and add oil to gearboxes, pumps and engines, grease bearings and perform other related preventive maintenance work on equipment.
7. Inspect, repair, and maintain all mobile equipment including forklifts, elevated work platforms, carts, and tractors.
8. Check for proper gear mesh and proper alignment of machinery using established methods and practices.
9. Make visual inspections of plant operations ensuring that operational problems have been located and corrected.
10. Requisition parts and supplies and assist in the maintenance of spare parts inventory.
11. Maintain records and prepare regular and special reports on operation of equipment and systems; take and log a variety of readings from equipment.
12. Supply and maintain all hand tools needed for maintenance function.
13. Maintain communications with production, engineering and other maintenance personnel for orderly execution of duties.
14. Observe all EHS rules and procedures.
15. Maintain an orderly and clean work area to assure a desirable and safe working environment.
16. Perform other related duties as per the direction of the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Mechanic is expected to have mastered a wide variety of fundamental maintenance skills. Specifically he/she must demonstrate a competency in: hydraulics, pneumatics, blueprint reading, basic electricity, math, cranes, boiler systems, filtering systems, plumbing, pipefitting, valves, fabricating, lubrication systems, schematic diagrams, power transfer components, use of predictive tools, use of all shop equipment, use of cutting and welding equipment.
High school diploma or equivalent required, industrial/manufacturing experience preferred.
