SUMMARY

The Street Maintenance Crew Member performs unskilled/semi-skilled work including compacting, installing, leveling and finishing materials; construct and maintain roadways, sidewalks and storm drainage systems; performs heavy manual labor; works with concrete, asphalt, gravel, dirt, bricks, grout, and other materials.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Loads and unloads materials, supplies, and equipment. 

  • Assists in asphalt maintenance by shoveling and raking.  

  • Perform multiple safety tasks and directing traffic.   

  • Clean and maintain tools used to accomplish major duties. 

  • Act as support to the rest of the crew in Street Maintenance projects. 

  • Ensure all supplies needed for the job site are loaded onto the truck. 

  • Follow directions from the crew chief accurately and efficiently. 

  • Requires response to emergency conditions and situations.  

  • Requires on call work during nights and weekends.  

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Labor Crew Chief. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY: 

  • Transportation- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by road specifically, including laws and ordinances regulating the operation of vehicles. 

  • Construction- Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and procedures used in the construction and maintenance of streets. 

  • Customer and Personal Service- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 

  • Safety- Knowledge of OSHA, City, and Federal rules and regulations, as well as work hazards and applicable safety precautions of the assigned work. 

  • Communication Skills – Conveying information effectively through speaking and writing and understanding information others give through speaking and writing. 

  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions when appropriate, and picking out important pieces of information. 

  • Teamwork skills – Works well with others to accomplish a common goal.
