About the role

Summary

Performs a variety of skilled tasks associated with grounds trade

Essential Duties

  • Utilizes blueprints, schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to complete various tasks which may include athletic field maintenance, excavation of utilities for repair or replacement, layout of sports fields
  • Utilizes hand tools, testing and diagnostic equipment, simple power tools and large equipment such as backhoe, tractors and skid loader as appropriate for the trade to complete assigned tasks
  • Cleans worksites including hauling debris and trash, cleaning tools and equipment, and ensuring tools, materials and equipment are stored properly
  • Demonstrates knowledge of tools and safety practices commonly used in the grounds trade
  • Demonstrates knowledge of irrigation controls and programming
  • Determines proper methods, equipment, and materials to facilitate cost effective repairs
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Certification/Licensure

Valid Georgia Driver License requiredEligible to acquire a CDLMust be insurable by Fulton County School insurance carriers

Experience Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Familiar with irrigation systems and set-up of the controls
  • Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the grounds trade
  • Knowledge in use of hand and power tools and large equipment attachments related to the trade
  • Skilled in the operation of tractors, backhoe and skid loader
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work variable shifts

Working Conditions

  • Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity
  • Must be able to work from tall ladders, lifts, scaffolding and/or bucket truck

Physical Demands

  • Typically requires climbing ladders; pushing and/or pulling
  • Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to operate power equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances
  • Must be able to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor
