As a Technical Writer II (Service), you will research, write, and produce technical content, such as service manuals, diagnostic fault code manuals, and Quick Reference charts. This position will create graphic line art and use photography to improve the customer experience in learning how to diagnose and repair Toro commercial products. They will learn and apply new technology to support topic-based authoring (DITA).
What Will You Do?
In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:
- Research, validate, enhance, or create the engineering information necessary to generate accurate, timely, user-appropriate technical service publications and other technical materials as required.
- Document complex service procedures, verify technical processes, and obtain photos when line art is not available.
- Lead the effort in technical content management, structure and organization, corporate trademark requirements, standardizing content across multiple print and digital platforms and machine product lines as necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining reliability of the material within the content management system, and publishing and communicating relevant updates to the users.
- Manage the content displayed on the corporate distributor extranet to ensure an accurate display of information. Digitally link the various materials that share a common product line, including third party documentation.
- Develop strong working relationships with product engineering, manufacturing, and internal and external service personnel to obtain or develop product specifications, service procedures, trouble-shooting procedures, and to verify accuracy of publications.

What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
- 3-5+ years’ experience in electrical technologies with the ability to understand and communicate technical and mechanical concepts is preferred. A working understanding of industrial hydraulics is preferred. Ability to read assembly drawings and schematics is necessary.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Scientific and/or Technical Communications, English, or related engineering field. Applicable experience as a technical writer/artist is preferred. A combination of education and experience is also acceptable, with samples of your professional work available.
- Experience with DITA formatting and language is preferred.
- Experience with XML; Arbortext Epic Editor or similar application is preferred.
- Experience with Windchill or similar product lifecycle management software preferred.
- Demonstrated ability in technical illustration and graphics development is required. Experience with animation/video creation is preferred.
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Corel Photo Paint, and Corel Draw (or closely related software) is required.
- Experience with Creo Illustrate and Creo Parametric CAD software (or similar 3D rendering programs) is required.
- Proficiency with MS software (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required.
