Job Description:
Position Overview
As a Registered Nurse Coordinator, you will play a vital role in guiding oncology patients through every phase of their treatment journey. You’ll coordinate complex outpatient care, provide education and support to patients and families, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and interdisciplinary partners to ensure seamless, high-quality care.
This role is ideal for an experienced oncology nurse who thrives on care coordination, patient advocacy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Educate patients and families on chemotherapy and immunotherapy, ensuring understanding and confidence throughout treatment
- Coordinate care for patients preparing to begin treatment, including:
- Pre-treatment staging
- Laboratory work and diagnostic testing
- Venous access placement
- Serve as a clinical liaison between BIDMC Boston and BID Needham providers
- Support Hematology/Oncology physicians and nurse practitioners with:
- Telephone triage
- Medication prescription renewals
- Outside lab ordering
- Coordinate referrals and collaborate with:
- Visiting Nurse Association (VNA)
- Hospice and home care agencies
- Specialists including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Genetics, Nutrition, Social Work, Physical Therapy, and Palliative Care
- Assist with pre-authorization processes and ensure accurate scheduling of consultations, diagnostics, and treatments
- Perform patient assessments, gather clinical histories, and support care planning
- Participate in rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives
- Provide leadership and contribute to process improvements in outpatient oncology care
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- 3–5 years of related nursing experience
- Oncology nursing experience required
- Proficiency with electronic medical records and web-based applications
- Comfort using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Outpatient oncology experience
- Strong care coordination or nurse navigator background

Compensation
Pay Range: $39.14 – $101.14 per hour
