BWXT is currently seeking an Additive Manufacturing Intern for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

 

BWXT is People Strong, Innovation Driven - be part of BWXT’s innovation hub. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group research, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope powered systems for both internal and external customers.

 

Advanced Technologies is currently seeking a Material Characterization Intern to be part of a team assisting multiple nuclear development projects at its Advanced Technologies research and development organization in Lynchburg, VA. The intern will be responsible for developing novel manufacturing techniques of ceramics or metals through a one-off a few technologies BWXT is evaluating. These include both indirect and direct additive manufacturing technologies including electron beam, laser, and lithography-based technologies.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Take ownership of an additive manufacturing technology BWXT is development.
  • Generate/improve standard operating procedures and perform a safety analysis of the technology.
  • Develop and execute a development plan for the maturation of the selected additive manufacturing technology.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure or experience in the processing and microstructure characterization of ceramic, metal, or composite materials

OR

  • Experience in metal, plastic, or ceramic additive manufacturing technologies

OR

  • Experience in polymer formulation and thermal/photoinitiation
  • Enthusiastic attitude for tackling new challenges and learning new technologies.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in a technical field of study (e.g., Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear Engineer, Physics, Chemistry etc.) is required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to multi-task are required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
