Endoscopy/SPD Coordinator - Full Time - Days

Job Summary

The Endoscopy/SPD Coordinator is an integral member of the Endoscopy and Sterile Processing team through ensuring the equipment & instruments required for the daily and emergency schedule are prepared and ready for reuse. The Coordinator will educate staff within the site to ensure successful patient outcomes.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager, in accordance with established hospital standards, nursing department/unit structure, process and outcome standards, established regulatory and accreditation requirements and the philosophy, goals and objectives of the hospital and nursing and SPD department    
 

Core Job Responsibilities

• The Endoscopic Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing and evaluating daily operations and guiding the unit-based team.
• Organize, coordinate and prioritize patient care consistently utilizing available resources.
• Identify daily needs and formulate collaborative plans to ensure patient care.
• Develop, evaluate and adjust daily and on-call staffing schedules based on departmental coverage needs and patient flow.   
• Takes an active role in SPD performance improvement initiatives and activities as appropriate
• Manage daily operations within budget parameters. 
• Identify and drive process improvements.
• Apply and proactively share knowledge of Endoscopy/SPD Standard Operating Procedures.  
• Maintain responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education program.
• In collaboration with the SPD Educator and Manager, ensure employees are effectively trained on all required competency skill levels as required by regulatory committees, policies and standards.  Conduct sterile processing employee assessments and identify competency deficiencies.  Conduct training to eliminate gaps.
• Orient and train new employees with the assistance of the SPD Educator. 
• Provide input to annual performance reviews of assigned staff.
• Participate in the hiring of staff.
• Serve as a resource and role model to other staff within the unit.
• Demonstrate competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
• Perform other duties as required.
   

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of work in an Endoscopy setting.
• Extensive knowledge of Endoscopy Procedures and processing of required equipment/ instrumentation.
• Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication and customer service skills.   
• Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, plan, and resolve issues in complex situations.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new software.
• Ability to multi-task projects including the ability to plan and organize.
• Flexible and self-motivated.
   

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

• Certification from an accredited Gastroenterology association required.

PREFERRED:

• 2 years of leadership/lead experience in a healthcare setting
• Associates degree
