Job Description:
This highly technical position responsible for the repair, maintenance, modification, & installation of all the high voltage underground/overhead electrical distribution systems & security & street lighting on the LSU-BR campus, the Ben Hur Agriculture Farms, St. Gabriel Agriculture Research, Petroleum Institute Blowout Training Facility, FETI, & LSU South Campus. Electrical distribution systems consists of a 4160 V and 13.8 kV systems. The 4160 V system is made up on 53 feeders & over 17 miles of underground duct bank. The 13.8V system radial distributed power to 13.8V/4160V substations & is 5 miles in length.Job Duties:
45%- Perform advanced "leader man" level work in the installation and maintenance of utility high voltage electrical systems and related equipment. Perform and direct Electrician Specialists to install, test and make voltage adjustments on high voltage transformers, make splices (both modular kll and hand) on high voltage feeders both underground and overhead. Locate and repair problems on high and low voltage cables by using insulation meggers, oscillators, lone detectors, etc. to locate faults in underground cables, using phasing sticks or phase rotation meters to check rotation of cables before switching into the circuits, install and repair electrical conduits, pull in conductors and terminate cables, and troubleshoot distribution circuits to locate and correct the causes of outages and improper operations.
45%- Install , alter, maintain, and repair all security and street lighting on campus and other ancillary locations. This involves the use of a multimeter to troubleshoot and repair electrical problems. Repair all overhead street lights. Erect new poles and install new fixtures as required.
5%- Provide guidance and assistance to contractors on campus on the layout of the high voltage electrical distribution system. Draw, interpret, update, and file electrical system prints. Use line locator to identify underground lines.
5%- Perform supervisory duties as needed in absence of foreman. The includes preparation of work schedules, line sheets and other routine supervisory tasks. High Voltage Electrical crew assures adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding the operation and maintenance of the electrical utility system, specifically requirements outlined in the National Electrical Code. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience in the electrical trade.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the electrical trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, pull wires, stoop, squat, kneel and bend their back, climb ladders, and work reaching overhead. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder.Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
