Job Description

Team Leader of the Electronics Laboratory located in the Engineering Technical Center in Plymouth, MI. Responsible for work package engineering development, workflow, resource management, leadership of experienced full time technicians, state of the art tooling, soldering stations and maintaining a large selection of electronic component inventory.

This position requires an entrepreneurial minded candidate with positive customer service skills and a “yes we can” attitude. Success will be strongly dependent on the ability to balance several competing high priority projects, organize the lab in a strategic way to best support forecasted work, and support the associates with mentoring/training to set them up for success. This position is analogous to running a small service company inside of a much larger company.

Candidate will be responsible for the following leadership tasks: representing the team in customer meetings, creating/maintaining group procedures (controlled documents), meeting group KPI’s, approving timecards, creating estimates, tracking estimates to actuals, monitoring project number usage/billing, associate training plans, and general performance of the E-Lab in terms of quality, cost, delivery, customer satisfaction.

Candidate will also be responsible for performing services provided by the e-lab. The expectations is approximately 50/50 time spent between leadership tasks and service work tasks. Examples of services are listed below.

E-Lab Services include:  

Wire harness fabrication

  • Design and build custom harness assemblies for any application
  • From single piece to batch production
  • Create production quality harness documentation based on customer requirements

Custom test, project boxes

  • Design & build custom units from handheld dongles to large load boxes for testing
  • Custom built, 3-D printed enclosures

PCB repairs & modifications including fine pitch

  • PCB repairs & component swaps (down to 0201 package)
  • IC reflow, removal & replacement capabilities
  • Full PCB component population & assembly
  • Equipped with IR rework station for BGA support

PCB development support

  • Experienced installing test-point tap-outs, JTAGs, thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.

Design and build custom tester builds, including mobile “suitcase” testers

  • Anodized front panels designed in-house
  • Applications include quality checks, re-flash, sorts, etc.

Tester build support

  • Design, assemble, & wire the mechanical portion of DV / PV testers
  • Tester troubleshooting & repair work
  • Electronics diagnostics & repairs

Electrical panel wiring

  • Electrical panel design, layout & fabrication
  • Panel wiring using NRTL approved wire, techniques, wire raceways, etc.

Custom vehicle instrumentation installation

  • Full development of system integrations
  • Customer panel design & fabrication for OE look
  • Demo & show vehicle prep

Design & 3D print custom housings, fixtures; experience with aluminum and plastic fabrication (brackets, stands, housings)

 

Qualifications

Required

  • HighSchool diploma or GED equivalent
  • 5+ years of demonstrated work experience with a majority of the services listed above
  • 5+ years of experience independently using electronics and development tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Strong customer interface and negotiation skills
  • Ability to create, read and maintain schematic drawings
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office, Outlook, Skype, Teams
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and balance workload for team and self

Preferred

  • Associates degree in electronics related major
  • 5+ years working in automotive, aeronautic, or medical device testing
  • Project management or leadership related experience
  • Ability to multitask on a variety of projects
  • Strong understanding of complex electrica
