JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State’s Undergraduate Admissions Office seeks a customer service-centered individual for an Admissions Counselor opening within the Undergraduate Recruitment team. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Recruitment and Engagement, this position will require excellent communication skills as the primary focus of the role will be corresponding to prospective students and families via phone and by email.
After completing three months of in-office training, this position will have the opportunity to offer a flexible work arrangement that combines a hybrid of remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
Counsel prospective students and families regarding application and enrollment processes throughout the admissions cycle; mainly through phone calls, but also via email, virtual and in-person appointment sessions
Respond to requests from individual applicants, families, inquiries, and school counselors
Present to audiences of approximately 150 attendees at recruitment and/or enrollment services sessions and events for prospective and accepted students, sharing knowledge about the admissions process, academic programs, financial aid, campus life, and university structure within large and small group settings
Evaluate and analyze application credentials to help determine eligibility for admission
Update student records and applications as requested
Contribute to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative team and professional environment
Some evening and weekend work may be required
Education and Experience:
Typically requires an Associate's degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Computer experience; Knowledge of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Slate (or other CRM system), and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred
Ability to manage concurrent projects with a high level of accuracy
Proven time management skills and attention to detail
Excellent verbal, written, communication and organizational skills
Exemplary customer service skills handling a variety of audiences
Capacity to work in a collaborative team environment
