Junior Mountaineers Camp Instructor - Non Student-1

Western Colorado University invites applications for the summer position of Junior Mountaineers Camp (JMC) Instructor. Both part-time and full-time JMC Instructor positions are available. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8am-6pm.

Responsibilities:  The position reports to the Associate Athletics Director of Business Operations and/or the Junior Mountaineers Camp Director and is responsible engaging and educating youth ages 5-12 about STEAM through demonstrations and hands-on activities and physical activities/athletics through demonstration, activities, and games. Instructors will help create, plan, and deliver lessons and activities related to the weekly camp theme, communicate with parents during drop off & pick up, and manage camper behavior. This is an on-campus, in-person position running from late May through August. The position can be part or full-time, with 20-40 hours per week.

Qualifications: Valid CPR/AED, First Aid, and Medication Administration Certifications (will be provided). Must be at least 18 years of age.

State Licensing Requirements:

• Ability to pass state-licensed required CBI, FBI, Trails background checks
• Complete and submit annual health history
• Must have at least three (3) months (460 hours) of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in STEAM, Outdoor Recreation / Education, Parks & Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Education, or other related fields. Experience working in a youth camp, coaching youth, and/or teaching youth is preferred. Knowledge of CDHS State Licensing Rules & Regulations

Compensation: $22.00 per hour. The position is FLSA non-exempt and overtime eligible. Employee benefits are not included for this short-term, seasonal position.
