Director of Behavioral Health/Social Work Education

The Director of BH/SW Education in Ophthalmology will provide strategic oversight, clinical expertise, and executive leadership to advance Behavioral Health integration through clinical practice, education, and program evaluation in line with the mission and goals of the Flaum Eye Institute. 

The director will ensure the delivery of high-quality services, lead program development and evaluation, develop an educational program for social work interns and other trainees, and collaborate with stakeholders to foster innovation and growth within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

 1. Clinical Leadership: Oversee clinical programs to ensure alignment with evidence-based practices and organizational standards. Supervise and mentor a team of licensed social workers, interns, and allied professionals. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training to enhance service delivery.Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and ethical guidelines.

 

2. Strategic Planning and Program Development: Design and implement initiatives that address community needs and advance the organization’s mission. Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute strategic goals.

 

3. Administrative and Operational Oversight: Manage budgets, oversee resource allocation, and ensure financial sustainability. Generate comprehensive reports to assess program outcomes and effectiveness.  Maintain partnerships with external agencies, stakeholders, and funders.

 

4. Teaching/Education/Mentorship/Coaching: Work with Flaum leadership to develop a interdisciplinary training program to educate SW interns and BH clinicians and trainees on the care of patients with visual acuity concerns. Also to educate and coach ophthalmology residents on BH aspects of ophthalmological care. 

 

5. Research and other scholarly pursuits: Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships to further the growth of the program.

Initiate and otherwise collaborate with other faculty on joint scholarly activities as well as present in local, regional and national conferences on integrating BH in Ophthalmology. 

 

6. Community Engagement and Advocacy: Represent the organization at conferences, public forums, and stakeholder meetings. Advocate for policies and resources to support underserved populations. Build relationships with community organizations to strengthen networks of care.

Qualifications

PhD degree in behavioral health related field or a combination of Master’s degree in mental health or social work, and PhD in medical humanities.

 

Advanced certification in leadership or clinical practice preferred.

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
