Trade Compliance Officer

Role Purpose:  

The Trade Compliance Officer ensures that all import and export activities of the Group adhere to international laws, including sanctions. Responsibilities include managing compliance systems, conducting audits, and providing training. 
 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Ensure compliance with EU and international import/export control, sanctions, and contractual undertakings. 

• Manage risk and adherence to international trade sanctions, including checks on materials subject to licensing, and restrictions for specific high-risk countries. 

• Maintain and integrate trade compliance policies across BDR Thermea companies, ensuring local procedures align. 

• Oversee indirect tax compliance for imports and exports, including customs, Intrastat & VAT procedures, and CBAM reporting. 

• Handle administrative and regulatory requirements related to export licensing and import compliance. 

• Conduct periodic audits and self-assessments to identify risks and implement remediation plans. 

• Provide clear guidance and training on trade compliance, ensuring proper escalation procedures. 

• Act as the primary contact for all export and import control matters. 

• Implement import/export controls in projects, including SAP S/4 HANA and GTS module transitions. 

• Initiate and implement Group-wide import/export initiatives, such as commodity code application and country-of-origin determination. 
   

Essential Qualifications and Experience: 

• Education: Master's degree in business, International Trade, Law, or a related field. 

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a trade compliance role with a background in international business and law. 

• Skills in Operations: Strong experience in export and import operations. 

• Regulatory Knowledge: 

• Familiarity with indirect tax and import and export administration regulations. 

• Understanding of foreign trade regulations between the EU and the US. 

• Knowledge of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). 

• Audit Experience: Proven ability in conducting internal and external export control audits. 

• Communication: Excellent English skills, both orally and in writing; superior interpersonal abilities. 

• Problem Solving: Capability to identify, initiate, and drive projects from inception to completion. 

• Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 

• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office, SAP S/4 HANA, and Visual Compliance.
