Definition
An employee in this position will be a personal example of high moral character and superior teaching and coaching standards. The Softball Coach will model and teach good sportsmanship as the number one priority in athletics. This Coach will work with faculty and staff to support players' academic and moral success.
Duties and Responsibilities • Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program. • Promotes the sport outside the school through news media or in any other feasible manner. • Responsible for the implementation of the athletic policies by the entire staff of the sports program. • Responsible for the quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written release to local media by way of the Principal and Gaston County Schools’ Communications Department. • Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. • Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results. • Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through proper channels. • Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation. • Develops a practice program. • Assists the athletic director in scheduling, development of the budget, administration of the softball budget, and making travel arrangements, when necessary. • Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility. • Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant. • Gives constant attention to a student athlete’s grades and conduct. • Present at all practices and games. Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant. • Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies. • Completes and submits proper paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries to the athletic office within 24 hours. • Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection, as needed. • Directs student managers and assistants, if applicable. • Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for pre-season meetings. • Participates in the budgeting function with the Athletic Director by establishing requirements for the next season. • Advises the Athletic Director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes. • Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times. • Coordinates program with maintenance and school employees. • Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites. • Accountable for all equipment and/or collection of fees for any lost or unreturned equipment. Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning equipment and submit annual inventory and current records. • Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing. • Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices; authorizes who may enter and issue or requisition equipment. • Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times. • Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on the general cleanliness of the facility. • Is responsible for the cleanliness and maintenance of specific sports equipment. • Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty. • Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use. • Performs such other duties as assigned by the school Athletic Director and/or administration.
