The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Developer to join our COMSEC team within the Core Systems and Components group. In this role, you will play a critical part in developing and maintaining embedded software solutions for secure communications systems. You will work in close collaboration with Electrical Circuit and FPGA Designers to deliver robust, high-performance software for cutting-edge aerospace applications.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software for COMSEC systems
Collaborate closely with Electrical Circuit and FPGA Designers to ensure seamless hardware/software integration
Drive work across all phases of the software development lifecycle — from requirements and architecture through implementation, code review, verification, and deployment
Develop low-level drivers and firmware for embedded hardware platforms
Support hardware bring-up, debugging, and verification activities
Contribute to software architecture, design reviews, and documentation
Develop and execute software verification and validation plans, including unit, integration, and automated regression tests
Implement and maintain secure communications and cryptographic capabilities in compliance with applicable standards
Design and integrate device authentication mechanisms and identity management solutions into embedded platforms
Support the development and implementation of Zero Trust security principles within embedded system architectures
Ensure software development adheres to applicable standards and security requirements
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
8+ years of experience in embedded software development
Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS)
Strong understanding of hardware/software interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, and similar protocols
Experience working with FPGA interfaces and register-level hardware integration
Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers
