About the role

This Opportunity

The Cable-Supported Bridge Team Leader National Bridges and Structures Practice is responsible for leading multidisciplinary teams in the planning, design, and delivery of complex bridge projects, including cable-supported and other long-span structures. This role combines technical expertise with leadership and strategic oversight to ensure projects meet client expectations, regulatory standards, and organizational objectives.

This position may be based out of our Plano/Dallas, Texas offices.

Your Impact

Strategic Planning – The Complex Bridge Team Leader will collaborate with NBSP Leadership, Bridge Sector Leaders, Local Business Leaders (LBLs) and major projects leaders and develop and/or refine NBSP’s strategic plan for cable-supported bridge opportunities across North America. This may include:

  • Market assessment
  • Asset management technology
  • Perform activities including but not limited to:
    • Approaching Cable-supported bridge clients including public sector (federal, state, local) and private sector (toll agencies and contractors) and International markets to learn firsthand about upcoming projects
    • Support in international markets
    • Researching key geographies for business focus
    • Marketing our wide range of professional services and potential emerging opportunities (e.g. inspection, rehabilitation, redecking, cable dehumidification, asset management)
    • Positioning for upcoming project opportunities
    • Alternative delivery support
    • Informing NBSP Leadership of potential strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions support
  • Assist with preparation of NBSP strategic plan and annual business plan

Business Development – Support NBSP’s business development activities including:

  • Identification of specific business opportunities
  • Client introductions and relationship building
  • Gathering intel, government affairs and positioning
  • Participating in Go / No-Go decision-making for specific opportunities
  • Participating in proposal preparation
  • Coordinating teaming partner strategies
  • Leading preparation for interviews for opportunities
  • Conducting debriefs and negotiations

Industry Engagement:

  • Engage with key industry associations and organizations in collaboration with Regions and Client Relationship Managers, as appropriate, potentially including:
    • International Cable-Supported Bridge Owners
    • National Steel Bridge Alliance
    • Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute
    • American Segmental Bridge Institute
    • Asset management organizations
  • Federal and State Agencies and organizations including:
    • Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)
    • Transportation Research Board (TRB)
    • State and Provincial Departments of Transportation / Ministries of Transport
  • Project Leadership & Delivery
    • Oversee and support engineering delivery for long-span and cable-supported bridge projects for design and construction services.
    • Senior Technical Reviews to confirm compliance with applicable codes (e.g., AASHTO, CHBDC) and quality standards on assigned complex bridge projects.
    • Develop and implement risk-based asset management strategies for critical infrastructure.
    • Partner with regional / local structures leadership in Texas, Louisiana and other central US leads.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Senior Technical Review / QC/QA of evaluations, structural analysis and design for complex bridges, including retrofits and rehabilitation.
    • Review and approve technical deliverables, ensuring accuracy and innovation.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies, design methodologies, and sustainability practices
  • Team Management
    • Lead and mentor engineers, designers, and technical staff.
    • Foster collaboration across disciplines and offices to deliver integrated solutions.
    • Support staff development through coaching and performance feedback.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI):

Year 1 (2026):

  • No detailed sales goal for first year but need to develop a strategic plan for growth opportunities
  • Identify at least five owners of cable-supported bridges that would be potential new clients. Set up and lead an introduction meeting for national, regional and local WSP staff as appropriate and begin building a relationship that will ultimately lead to new work in 2026 and beyond.
  • Utilize updated NBI data to create a list of existing suspension bridges in the US and Canada that could become longer term opportunities for rehab/replacement
