This position is in the Aircraft Carrier Design and Systems Engineering Directorate (SEA 05V) at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). This position will be at the Washington Navy Yard. The incumbent serves as a Systems Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Digital, Network, Cyber Group (DNCG) System Engineering Manager. Supported areas include: Digital Transformation (3-D Product Models, Model Based System Engineering, Product Life Cycle software, and SharePoint Online), Machinery Control and Monitoring System (MCMS), Federated Machinery Local Area Network (FMLAN), Steering Gear Control System, Voice, Video, Navigation, Integrated Bridge System. Auxiliary and/or Electrical System field device support, data logging and damage control software applications, and supporting digital transformation of engineering processes. Occasional travel to Tidewater area of Virginia may be expected in this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leverage previous systems engineering experience to serve as technical expert in systems engineering and system integration supporting the Aircraft Carrier Engineering Team (05V).
- Assist in the technical oversight and management of technology achievability assessments, design trade space definition, exploration, and ship specification development.
- Function as a cognizant systems engineer for assigned projects, you are expected to proactively manage all relevant 05V tasking within these projects.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams, build consensus with numerous stakeholders, and coordinate with teams of engineers and support staff to complete projects.
- Coordinate in small teams (2 to 6 staff members) on multiple projects. This includes technical feedback and guidance, task tracking, and team communications.
- Review reports and study results from government and industry partners, provide technical recommendations, adjudicate comments, and prepare official technical correspondence.
- Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters.
- Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendations.
- Develop formal presentations to brief to senior officials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree with 3 years experience
- Engineering experience
- Good project management, technical writing, and organizational skills
Preferred/Desired:
- Engineer with degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Systems engineering from an accredited university.
- Experience with COMET to improve productivity, collaboration and use of 3D product model.
- Experience with shipboard networks and systems
- Prior Carrier, Submarine, or Surface Ship (Navy or Coast Guard) system engineering experience is preferred, but not required.
Security Clearance:
Must have an active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship
