St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Human Resources (EDHR). The Executive Director of Human Resources uses their knowledge, experience, and skills to serve all employees (staff, faculty and student employees) across campus. They provide leadership and oversight to areas of human resources such as recruiting/talent management, compensation, benefits, performance management, compliance and employee relations. The EDHR also acts as Title IX and ADA coordinators for the university and serves as a strategic partner for university leadership. Within these roles they advance the university's mission, develop and support a talented workforce, and foster employee engagement.
For consideration, this position requires experience in higher education as a HR professional. Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field is required, master's degree a plus. PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification is preferred. Possesses a minimum of 4 years' experience in human resources, with at least 2 years of experience in supervision and departmental management. Experience should include the following areas: employee relations, classification and compensation, job analysis, recruitment, employment, retention, organizational and talent. Possesses the cross-functional collaboration skills needed to creatively problem-solve, engage, and closely partner with HR Staff and colleagues across all levels of the organization. Able to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, conflict management, communication and facilitation skills; comfort level with presenting information to leadership and large groups of employees.
Essential Responsibilities Include:
- Lead human resources (HR) strategic planning projects and teams, laying out clear expectations to achieve desired results.
- Oversee employee relations including complaint processes according to university policies and procedures and in accordance with employment law and government regulations.
- Develop, improve and implement HR policies, processes and procedures.
- Continually ask for feedback from a variety of sources, respond and communicate actions that will improve HR services.
- Use data to analyze workforce planning, compensation, performance management issues, recruitment, and retention; oversee plan to address gaps and expand on successes.
- Research industry best practices and prepare reports or presentations to achieve university goals.
- Create robust communication plans for all human resource objectives, projects, and training programs. Respond to questions and issues quickly and be straight forward about any challenges that occur.
- Pursue and maintain knowledge of compliance and regulatory changes, new technologies, trends in talent management, employee relations and employment law.
- Oversee compensation policies, systems, salary ranges, and provide guidance and recommendations to address university compensation goals.
- Seek out new employee benefits and rewards opportunities that add value to the employee experience.
- Oversee the performance management function and delivery of performance management solutions, tools, and training.
- Promote and support university efforts to attract and retain a talented workforce.
- Develop and execute annual budget and proposals to meet human resource objectives.
- Engage as a liaison between Staff Council and Administration.
- Collaborate with and serve as a consultant and advisor to supervisors and leaders, ensuring employees are treated fairly and respectfully, and that they adhere to the university Operating Principles.
- Consistently demonstrate and promote trust, integrity, and accountability across divisions and stakeholder groups within the campus community.
- Meet deadlines, accomplish goals, and be prepared to pivot priorities, to be flexible enough to adapt to change quickly.
- Other duties as assigned.
Title IX and ADA Coordinator Roles
- Ensure the university complies with Title IX and ADA obligations and regulations.
- Coordinate investigations of complaints.
